Nuance Releases Dragon Go! Voice Command App for Free

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android News" @ 11:00 AM

http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/10/...gon-go-android/

"Today the company's pressing forward once again by introducing its Dragon Go! app for Google's mobile OS. The app focuses on verbal commands, giving you the ability to ask it to perform internet searches, make dinner reservations, buy movie tickets, play music on services like Pandora and Spotify and the list goes on."

Since Apple released iOS 5 with Siri people are really getting excited about voice commands and dictation. This looks like a very good voice command app to add to the mix of options that are available now for Android. Dragon Dictation has been around for years and I think was considered the best for a long time, it may still be. For that reason alone I'd like to give Dragon Go! a try and see how well it performs. I'm not convinced that voice control is super practical most of the time but it is fast and convenient sometimes. I especially like to use Android dictation for short messages and notes.

Do you use voice control or dictation on your Android device?

Sprint Google Voice Integration Fall Down Go Boom: Neither Sprint or Google Seem To Care

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android Mobile Operators" @ 05:00 PM

http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/05/...s-major-lack-o/

"Have you tried Sprint's new Google Voice integration? We know a lot of our readers have -- and many of them have had problems, writing in to us to express their displeasure. We started investigating and found a hoard of complaints, and the deeper we looked, the more issues we found."

Well, that was quite the smooth start to this wonderful Sprint Google Voice integration. Smooth as a porcupine's butt. After hearing about a few complaints the folks over at Engadget decided to do some digging. Turns out the deeper they dug the worse things got. One issue after another seemed to relentlessly plague Sprint customers when they tried to enable, disable, use, or even not use the new Google Voice integration. Follow the link on over for all the gory details. I think I'll take my Google Voice on the side please.

OTA Update of Android 2.3.4 Released for the Nexus One but it's Missing Something

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android News" @ 05:30 PM

http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/03/...gtalk-video-ca/

"Good news: Android 2.3.4 is en route to your Nexus One. Bad news: it lacks the Google Talk video and voice chat options that Nexus S users will get to enjoy in their slice of the same Gingerbread iteration."

This is too bad! I really wish they would give video and audio abilities to all versions of Google Talk, front facing camera or not. Sometimes you want to show something going on rather than yourself anyway. Really, even if you have no camera's the voice chat could be very handy when you're out of minutes on your phone or for some other reason conventional calling will not do the trick. Did you get the official 2.3.4 update on your Nexus One? What do you think?

Call Your Facebook Friends for Free With JAJAH

Posted by Craig Horlacher in "Android Software" @ 07:00 AM

http://gizmodo.com/#!5791720/jajah-...riends-for-free

"It's a pretty smart idea since phone numbers can be a hassle to remember. Through the JaJah app you can see a list of all your friends who are logged into Facebook Chat. Tap the person you want to talk to and they'll get a IM with a link to a voice call."

This is a cool idea! The new JAJAH mobile app lets you call your Facebook friends for free without using their regular phone number or costing anything. The coolest thing about JAJAH is the person you call doesn't need a JAJAH account. You can use it to call a friend across the street or across the world. If they are on Facebook and available for chat JAJAH can send them a link to click that will connect them to your voice call. Is this a voice service you will try? Let us know how it works for you!

Google Voice & Maps Updated

Posted by David Tucker in "Android Software" @ 10:15 AM

Last week, Google updated their Voice and Maps apps. The update to Google Voice brought a nice new widget that allows you to view your messages. It displays both text messages and voice mails, giving a preview of the message right on the home screen. The update also added a settings widget that gives you fast access to all of your settings and also displays your balance.

Google Maps brought out quite a few changes as well. A big addition was walking directions. I'm constantly using Maps when I'm in a new city so I expect that the walking directions will prove very valuable. They've also added a Street View smart navigation feature which allows you to quickly jump to the street view of your destination. The search bar has also seen some improvements and is now always available at the top of the Maps application.

If you haven't updated them yet, hit the Market to get them. To see all of the details you can visit the Google Mobile blog.
