Google Squashes Two Text Messaging Bugs

Posted by Karey Westfall in "Android Software" @ 11:30 AM

http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/05/...fixes-detailed/

"Hear that thunderous roar off in the distance, growing louder (and more frightening) as it persists? That is the sound of excited Android users emailing us to inform their fave gadget site that Google has just sent users an update to that little embarrassing SMS bug..."

It appears that Google is aware of and is in the process of fixing two text messaging bugs that have been annoying users. One bug will show a different received text message from the one that the user selected, while the other bug will send the text message to a different person than intended recipient. Both are irritating, but the second bug could possibly be disastrous if you accidentally send that racy text message to your boss!

SMS Popup Puts Text Messages All Up In Your Face

"Android only: SMS Popup gives you the best of both smartphone worlds-the immediacy of the iPhone's pop-up SMS notifications, but with the utility of being able to reply with preset messages, your voice, or text, all from a small window."

This is defiantly something that I do not miss from my Windows Mobile days. I love how Android handles notifications. I get a noise and an icon then I can deal with said notification at any time i choose. For many though, being able to quickly read and respond to a SMS message without leaving the program you are currently end would be a very welcome feature. Enter SMS Popup, a small program that will display a popup window with any new SMS messages you receive and three customizable buttons that allow to you deal with the message. Your options include quick reply, reply, close, delete, or speech-to-text, which will actually read your message to you. The quick reply option will allow you to setup any number of preset text strings to instantly reply back with. Seems like this could be one of those "just can't live without it" programs. Anyone tried it?

"Paragon Software Group, a leading software developer for mobile devices and desktop computers, has released its best-selling PenReader handwriting recognition tool for Android smartphones. PenReader for Android allows users to input handwritten text to their handheld devices naturally and easily without the limitations of an on-screen keyboard."

If you have trouble with those tiny keyboards on your phone, you should check out the PenReader application. It recognizes many languages, has a built in dictionary and other features. It may able you to input text faster than using the built in keyboard which might be more comfortable and easier for some users.
