So You Wanna Root

"With all the different devices out there running different versions of Android, the rooting process can be a little different for every phone. Here's a one-stop guide that should get you up and running with root access, no matter what device you have."

This really is a great resource and a "one-stop guide" for rooting your Android device. It gets easier and easier to do it and there are so many benefits, from installing custom ROMs, to getting rid of bloatware, to customizing the look and feel of your phone on every level, that it really pays to root. I just got a new Samsung Galaxy S 4G and within two hours of having it, it was rooted.

So check out this guide and your sure to find your device and discover the joys of rooting.

What Can Your Rooted Device Do?

"By now you know what it means when someone says they’ve rooted their Android, and you’ve seen some pros and cons to doing it yourself. That’s all fine and good, but we’ve left alone the topic of what you can actually do with your device once you root. Obviously there are a number of benefits, and we kind of hinted at them in the pros and cons list. But today we’ll have a few more items. As with yesterday, participation will make this list more robust."

I won't use anything that isn't rooted, and now there is a great list of reasons why you shouldn't either! Take a look at this great article by AndGeeks, and root away!

Thinking of Hacking your G2? Think Again!

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Android News" @ 06:30 AM

Well here is something truly annoying. It appears that the T-Mobile G2 may ship with a hardware rootkit that re-installs the device's firmware upon re-boot, basically stopping those who would want to root and load a custom firmware in their tracks... for now. I'm skeptical that it can't truly be overcome because if so, that would seriously limit the device's appeal - after all, if we can't change the OS, how would official updates actually work? I guess time will tell with this one. All I know is I'm holding off buying one until I know if it's mine to hack as I please, or T-mobile's to control. $500 isn't chump change!
