Nielsen Reports On The State of The Smartphone Market

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Android News" @ 07:00 AM

"According to October 2010 data from The Nielsen Company, 29.7 percent of U.S. mobile subscribers now own smartphones that run full operating systems. The most popular smartphones are the Apple iPhone and RIM Blackberry, which are caught in a statistical dead heat with 27 percent of smartphone market share in the U.S. Twenty-two percent of smartphone owners have devices with the Android operating system"

Interesting - last I'd heard the Feature Phone market still had about 10% higher saturation, so it looks like the era of the Smartphone will soon be upon a much wider spread of Americans than ever before seen. So what are your predictions for the other circle? I see Green + Blue taking up some space soon to be vacated by Red, and perhaps even eating into Grey!

Android Users Hate In-App Ads Way Less Than Other Mobile OS Users Says Nielsen

"Android users are more likely to click on ads within apps than people using other mobile operating systems, according to a new report on mobile applications by the Nielsen Company. One-third of Android users have clicked on an in-app ad compared to 29% for those with Windows Mobile, Apple's iOS, 26%, Palm, 22%, BlackBerry, 15%, and other types of operating systems, 24%."

This is quite an interesting writeup of a recent Nielsen cross platform mobile app survey. The biggest takeaway is that Android users are more likely than any other mobile OS user to click on those in-app ads. This is good news for developers out there looking for a little extra cash flow. It is also good news for Android in general as it may be a good attractor to get new developers over to the platform. The rest of the article is worth a read as it goes into more detail about what type of app different OS users download most and paid vs free and such. So what about you? Are you an in-app ad clicker or hater?
