New Gmail Features Make Your Life Prettier And Possibly Less Embarrassing

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android News" @ 03:30 PM

"Themes in Gmail are great - there are tons to choose from and they give your inbox a personalized look. But we've heard from many of you who thought it would be even better if you could give Gmail an even more personalized look and create themes completely on your own."

Not necessarily mobile related but if you use Android you mostly likely have a Gmail account. Google recently launched a few new features that should make your Gmail experience just a little nicer and possible save you from quite the embarrassing oops.

First up Google has made it possible to add your own custom wallpaper along with the previous ability to customize your theme colors to your Gmail inbox. I can't say that this is too much of a surprise as this exact feature was added to the main Google home page not all that long ago. The other, possibly more useful, options include the graduation of the "Don't forget Bob" and "Got the wrong Bob?" labs. These are now part of gmail for everyone and offer you suggestions as to additional contacts to add to an email or ask you if you really meant to add the contact you did to the message. This could save you from having to resend an email because you forgot some one or more importantly save you from accidentally sending a questionable email to the wrong person.

Suffering From Label Overload? Help is Just a Click Away

Posted by Kevin Jackson in "Android Talk" @ 09:30 AM

"We created the 'Hide read labels' and 'Hide Labels from Subjects' labs to help people manage their ever-growing lists of labels. Given the popularity and usefulness of these labs, we've decided to graduate them into fully-fledged features."

It's always nice to see Lab features move on up to the big time. I use a similar feature extensively in Google Reader and can imagine that it would be helpful for hard-core Gmail label users. So, how many labels do you use and do you think this feature will be useful to you?
