Does Your Smartphone Distract You From Ads on TV?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 01:00 AM

"While Apple might be pretty good at creating TV ads, the company's iPhone is something of a problem for television advertisers. According to a recent study, the iPhone (and other smart phones) are one of the major distractions people encounter when watching TV."

Anything that is "aiding in avoidance" is troubling to the advertising industry per AdAge. So when they decided to do a study and find out exactly how much distraction do smartphones cause television viewers. They didn't like the results. During a 30 minute show, 94% of viewers were distracted at some point, and smartphones accounted for 60% of these distractions. I can totally see this as I do exactly the same thing. How about you, does your smartphone distract you from those pesky ads on TV?

All Those Ads Add Up: Android Passes iOS In Ad Impressions

"This has been a significant few weeks for Millennial Media. The ad network just closed a $27.5 million investment round, announced that the company had tripled its revenue in 2010, and today, is releasing one of its more noteworthy monthly reports. Millennial, whose ads reach 63 million of a total of 77 million mobile web users in the U.S., or 81 percent of the U.S. mobile web; is reporting that for the first time in the company's history Android surpassed iOS as the largest Smartphone OS on the Millennial network in terms of impression share."

Android's latest step in its process of world domination is complete. This week Millennial Media reported that for the first time ever Android has surpassed iOS in total ad impressions. This can only be a good sign for Android users as ads are where the money is and money brings developers and developers bring really cool software for us to play with. :)

Android Users Hate In-App Ads Way Less Than Other Mobile OS Users Says Nielsen

Posted by Jason Lee in "Android News" @ 03:00 PM

http://www.mediapost.com/publicatio...&art_aid=135593

"Android users are more likely to click on ads within apps than people using other mobile operating systems, according to a new report on mobile applications by the Nielsen Company. One-third of Android users have clicked on an in-app ad compared to 29% for those with Windows Mobile, Apple's iOS, 26%, Palm, 22%, BlackBerry, 15%, and other types of operating systems, 24%."

This is quite an interesting writeup of a recent Nielsen cross platform mobile app survey. The biggest takeaway is that Android users are more likely than any other mobile OS user to click on those in-app ads. This is good news for developers out there looking for a little extra cash flow. It is also good news for Android in general as it may be a good attractor to get new developers over to the platform. The rest of the article is worth a read as it goes into more detail about what type of app different OS users download most and paid vs free and such. So what about you? Are you an in-app ad clicker or hater?
